Mood for Wood are international workshops aimed for students of design degrees interested in actual project realisation. During the workshops, students, with the help of recognised architects and designers from all over Europe and experienced carpenters, independently create urban furniture for selected locations in Poznań.
Design teams work on a specific location, meet with users of the space and get to know their needs in order tackle issues related to the particular place. The workshops are accompanied by additional events: debates, architecture walks, film screenings, and lectures. So far, architects and designers from all over Europe who shared their experience with the participants include Snohetta, TOPOTEK 1, Hello Wood, Zdenek Franek or the artist Iza Rutkowska.
In 2017 the Hello Wood Team built an installation on Ostrów Tumsk called the “Cathedral Island” in Poznań. There is a small marina and water sports center on the island with a panoramic view. The team designed a couple of benches inspired by the distinctive Gothic architecture of the island. The installation is in use for the sport centre but it is also a great resting place for tourists and a popular meeting point for city residents. The wooden furnitures are visible from the bridge and the riverbank, therefore they work like an advertising sign, attracting bypassers.
