Hello Wood at Space Saloon 2018

Going to the USA - SPACE SAL00N, Morongo Valley, California

In 2018 Hello Wood was invited to participate and hold a workshop at the SPACE SAL00N architecture camp. SPACE SAL00N is a design laboratory on the move. It explores the potentials of site by crafting collaborative hands-on experiences. Its pedagogical projects build communities, promote tolerance, and foster engagement through the production of transdisciplinary forms of knowledge.

SPACE SAL00N is a non-profit organization founded by Danny Wills and Gian Maria Socci. They are a collective of architects, artists, and researchers who work with students in exploring new frontiers for design education. Their events provide a supporting platform for both professional architects as well as young developing designers to realize site-specific projects.

Project description:

At SPACE SAL00N 2018 the Hello Wood team conceived and built an Oscilloscape.

The Oscilloscape is both a tool for observing and reacting to the world around us. Part observation deck, part resting space, part entertainment stage, this mobile structure acts as a place for measuring, describing, analyzing, and creating various wave activities. The front of the structure—used throughout the day as a meeting space, stage, and bar—produces messages and sounds to be projected and amplified through the conic volume in the rear.

Oscilloscape is a modern take on the mobile wagons of the Wild West. Its ability to reconfigure its use and location makes it an ideal station for analyzing new environments and reacting to constant changes in the landscape.
